Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Sophie has been working for more than 10 years specializing in issues facing children, teens and young adults ranging from adjustment and anxiety concerns, parent-child relationships, and trauma related issues. She believes everyone is capable of overcoming difficult obstacles and strives to provide a warm, positive and supportive relationship to foster growth and healing for you and your child. Her tool box includes play therapy techniques, brief solution-focused therapy and trauma focused-cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT) to help her clients move toward their goals.
Sophie completed her clinical training at Baylor College of Medicine in the Teen Health Clinics in Houston. As Senior Medical Social Worker, Sophie worked in school, clinic and hospital settings, providing teens and their families supportive services and counseling for issues relating to grief and bereavement, sexual abuse, and pregnancy.
While obtaining her MSW, she interned at the University of Texas Health and Science Center for Hemophilia and Thrombophilia, where she provided services for families dealing with the issues faced by patients diagnosed with complex and chronic medical conditions. Sophie completed her 2nd internship at Bo's Place (a non-profit grief support center), where she continues to facilitate groups today. There, she developed skills working with children and families experiencing grief and bereavement after the death of a loved one.
As an undergraduate student, Sophie volunteered at Boulder's Juvenile Detention Center and was also awarded two consecutive internships with Island Dolphin Care in Key Largo, Florida where she worked with special needs children and families using dolphin-assisted therapy.
Sophie is an active member of Houston's Child Trauma Consortium and a field instructor for MSW graduate students at the University of Houston. In her free time you can find her hiking with her dog, Beefy Ann, swimming or dreaming of her next travel destination.
