Ms. Sherrill is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Registered Play Therapist. With over 25 years in the mental health field, the past 17 years have been devoted to working with children as young as 2 and adolescents. Ms. Sherrill believes that all children have strengths and resilience to help them discover their full potential and loves seeing them heal and thrive.
Ms. Sherrill has extensive training and experience working with trauma and abuse. Having worked 11 years at The Children’s Assessment Center with sexually abused children and their families, she was able to study and learn about the effects of trauma on the developing brain and how to alter those effects through therapeutic interventions. In addition to trauma, she is experienced in treating a variety of mental health needs in children and adolescents such as anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, attachment disorders, grief and loss, adjustment disorders, ADHD, and emotional and behavioral difficulties. She specializes in Child Centered Play Therapy; however, other techniques such as sand tray, art, biblio-therapy, Animal Assisted Therapy, and therapeutic games and activities are also utilized. Ms. Sherrill also has many years of experience working with adults needing therapy for mental health needs and life challenges.
Ms. Sherrill whole heartedly believes that the parent/caregiver is a valuable part of the therapeutic process. She will work with parents in a teaching and supportive role to help their child thrive both in and outside of the home.
Ms. Sherrill is also an approved LCSW Supervisor and Registered Play Therapist Supervisor and has provided supervision locally and for play therapists in Australia and New Zealand. In addition, she has provided extensive trainings on her work with Child Centered Play Therapy and Animal Assisted Therapy with trauma and abuse at the local, national and international levels. Ms. Sherrill believes in what she does and enjoys enhancing others’ knowledge and abilities through teaching.
